HTML Tutorial
//Locked tutorial
My HTML Tutorial is up and running. It’s for complete beginners and is very simple. You can be making HTML web pages in seconds!
If you run into any difficulty; contact me!
End Of An Era!
I’ve quit runescape.
Yeah, can you believe it? Lloyd The Great quitting?
NEVER!!
But yeah. I got bored.. and now I play Guild Wars
$0 per month, better graphics, full screen… better controls, generally more fun. just a £15 one off payment!
Excellent!
I quit because I was bored, really. And don’t email for stuff, I “gave” most of it away.
LloydHumphreys.com
I’ve updated www.lloydhumphreys.com and it’s now running a link to a Google Pages account. All works fine for now. The Google Pages won’t be there long, once I *finally* get my hosting (www.atmospherehosting.com) working. I’ll grab the HTML generated by Google Pages, then run it like that.
It’s quick, it looks professional and it just links everywhere so it wont need much updating – and when it does, I can just re-grab the source and update the server.
Everythings good for now. Once the WP blogging engine is up’n'running on the server, you’ll be able to access this blog via www.lloydhumphreys.com/blog/ and some other stuff on the domain. It’s all pretty simple, really.
Media on the domain is public for most items, but there are some stuff I don’t want public eyes on (Family Photographs etc.). Once I get stuff up and running properly, I’ll add some videos and stuff for viewing if you’re in school etc, and the proxy filter wont allow you to view YouTube or Veoh or any other site. I may also add some games.
As for the tutorials, they’ll stay here – with identical versions on the main domain (ie www.lloydhumphreys.com/tutorials/tutaboutsomething.html).
If you’ve got any questions/suggestions, email me or leave a comment.

OLPC 2-for-1 Deal
OLPC’s (One laptop per child) are to be sold to the public for a bargain £200/$400. They’re meant to retail for £100/$200 per unit, but heres the deal: You buy one for yourself, you buy one for some child in a third world country.
Thing is, what’s a kid going to do with a laptop? I think the idea’s a little flawed. Just a little.
The whole project is aimed at developing countries/areas, not those ones that don’t have the basics. Personally, I think the ones without the basics should be helped first. Of course, the developing countries *could* use the computers to learn how to do things more efficiently and to modernise their lifestyle. Sure, they could use them. But if they’re developing and have gotten *that* far without a computer, surely they can continue while we help the indefinately more needy?
In theory, if not thought about much, it *would* be cheaper in the long run. But I’m speaking *long* run now. A laptop is great, and passing on information is as easy as publishing it to the web and then giving them the URL. How to cook fish properly – www.olpc.com/cooking-fish-properly/ etc. Just tell them that. Fine.
But internet costs money. So does maintaining the laptops. And powering them; if solar power isn’t available. Everything costs money. And laptops break. Overall, if you drop a laptop, chances are *something* has broken. Drop a book, the worst thats going to happen is it’s going to get a little dirty; or a page will fall out.
Overall, OLPC would be cheaper than books (OLPC vs printing costs), but that would take a long time before it would take effect. Who cares anyways? If we’re helping them along and losing a little along the way, it doesn’t matter. We are helping. I just think there are some people in need of more help these days, like the people *without* the basics.
$400 would go a long way towards getting food and water, the basics to a starving colony of people. For now, I think laptops can wait for the colonies with the basics; they’ve gotten this far they can wait a little while while other, more needy people were in need.
On the plus side…
OLPCs are handy. They’re quick. If theres a new disease, or if somebody is ill, just type it into the good ol’ OLPC and you can find a cure for the person. Excellent.
It can teach people how to grow better crops. Longer lasting crops. Different crops. Win-Win!
It can teach people new proffessions, how to carve wood. How to perform metalwork. Again, win-win!
Overall, the OLPC is an excellent idea. I just think it *can* wait a while while more needy people are helped. It is a brilliant idea. It will help the worlds future countries more advanced, and will bring them up to speed with current life. Excellent! Then maybe the people who’ve had an OLPC can help the people who have… nothing. Overall, excellent idea.
/Ramble about something that really doesn’t bother me. I still want an OLPC though. And I do care about all the people dying. Those people suffer day in, day out, and here we are handing out laptops – when they’re dying? Methinks the money spent on those laptops *can* be better spent.
HTML: Open and Closed Tutorial
Boredom. A killer. I’m bored, so I’m making another tutorial. Cause it’s fun. So I’m going to make a new HTML tutorial.
I’ve also thought of a new feature for the site: Locked and Open tutorials. Right now, the Internet Browser is an Open tutorial, because I have future plans for it, once I learn myself how to implement them. The music player is a locked/closed tutorial, meaning I wont be doing anything else with it and I wont be taking suggestions. The HTML tutorial will be covered 100%, so it’ll be a closed/locked tutorial. I’m going to get little icons! Exciting.
I’ve been doing HTML for a few years now (well, since I was 8 actually). So why not do a tutorial on it? After all, its a much better to learn first as it gives you a base to work off. This is all leading up to something bigger and better by the way: XHTML. Since I know HTML I want to learn XHTML, so I may as well blog a tutorial on it as I’m learning.
You know it makes sense.
For the less informed among you, HTML is a text-file containing Tags that tell a webbrowser how and what to display on screen. And its really simple.
Hope you enjoy the HTML tutorial.
Zero Punctuation
I love it. I love it. I love it!
