Microsoft To Buy Blackberry? (RIM)

Posted in Gadgets, Microsoft, Phones, Technology by Lloyd Humphreys on the August 31, 2007

With rumors Google may be stepping into the phone market, it might be a good idea of killing off some competition.

According to this site [http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/123719/is-microsoft-moving-in-on-blackberry-maker.html] there are rumors Microsoft are thinking of moving on RIM, Blackberry’s creator. Blackberry’s, as described by the article, have been hugely popular with the business market, but now RIM are pushing camera’s, music players and a variety of other mass market features into their phones in an attempt to get the public more involved. Great idea, but will it work?

Of course, Microsoft have Windows Mobile, and Blackberry’s have their own OS, so mixing these could prove a dangerous concoction for Microsoft, turning faithful Blackberry-ers away, but also attracting people who like the Windows Mobile interface.

Windows Live SkyDrive

Posted in Applications, Cool Stuff, Internet, Microsoft, Technology by Lloyd Humphreys on the August 30, 2007

SkyDrive has to be a cool thing, right? Store stuff online? Cool? Yes.

 Alas, no.

So now MS are finally doing what people such as MediaMax and Box.net have been doing for a fair while. Hell, I even did it before them with RoamDrive, and RoamDrive remains my favorite. With the recent update to Windows Live Mail (Free is now 5GB, Premium is 10GB) I’m even contemplating updating to Premium and ditching my GMail account for it. Why? Well, I’ve never been compelled to do so before because GMail offers 3GB(ish) and is compatible with RoamDrive, however only Premium email accounts from Hotmail are compatible with RoamDrive.

Then of course, theres the fact it only has 500mb of storage. MediaMax gives you 25 GB of storage – I wonder whom is better… Why should I go for the 10gb Hotmail account then? Well, of course, thats my email address so I’ll always use it – keeps things neat – and MediaMax has an annoying 10mb upload limit, whereas RoamDrive is limited only by your imagination. Funky.
